AEK - PAOK
Greece - Super League, Championship Round, Round 6
The 3-1 victory at "Karaiskakis" over Olympiakos shows that AEK is a strong contender for the title, considering that the last time they won at the same stadium was in 2018 and ended up winning the championship. Despite a stormy first half, AEK only managed a poor 1-0 lead (7' Gacinovic) at halftime, despite having several chances (3', 4', 21', 26') to score more goals. They conceded the equalizer (54') for the second consecutive game due to multiple errors by their players, but it was AEK who wanted the victory more and got it with goals from Levi Garcia (82' pen.) and Mandalou (90+1'). This huge victory, with a dominant performance, knocked their opponent out of contention for the title and turned it into a two-horse race between them and Panathinaikos, with the highly anticipated top derby scheduled for Sunday (4/30) away.
In competition news, coach Almeida will need to manage the team well during these consecutive derbies, and there may be 3-4 changes to the lineup. Mandalos, Jonson, and Amrabat, who came off the bench at "Karayskakis," have a chance to start, and one of the main stoppers may be protected. Mohammadi (back), Sidibe (back), and Araujo (forward) are still out, with only the former expected to return for the playoffs. In the last few matches, AEK has shown signs of regaining their form, creating numerous chances, and they need to be more accurate in front of goal to score more than one goal.
