ΑΕΚ - Lokomotiva
World - Club Friendly games
Last season was a remarkable one for AEK as they achieved their dream of reclaiming the top spot in Greece, securing their third double in club history. The team under the guidance of Matias Almeida received universal acclaim for their style of play, and the Argentine coach's influence has been highly regarded, with the major shareholder stating that "every wish is an order." As they prepared for the new season, there were a few roster-related questions: the backup player Javellas departed, while key player Amrabad renewed his contract. The club also made a significant acquisition, breaking their transfer record to bring in last year's league MVP, Pineda. AEK is now focused on further strengthening the squad, aiming to maintain their previous achievements and make progress in their European campaign (starting from the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League). They have already made some additions, including full-back Pelios from PAS and center-back Chrysopoulos from Aris. The latter arrived in the Netherlands just yesterday along with Athanasiadis, Vida, Hadjisafi, Rota, Mandalo, Simanski, and Zuber. However, AEK will be without the injured Sidibe, Araujo, and the international players Pineda and Garcia.
In their first friendly match, AEK will face Lokomotiva with several absentees. Nevertheless, the team's main characteristic under Almeida last year was their ability to maintain a strong competitive spirit, regardless of the lineup on the field. AEK's winning performance against the relatively weak Lokomotiva would be a satisfactory start to their preparations for the upcoming season.
