Chicago Bears – Denver Broncos
USA - NFL
Without a doubt, the Chicago Bears have shown after three weeks that they are the worst team in the NFL at the moment. They have lost all their games by a double-digit margin and last week, the Kansas City Chiefs demolished them by 41:10, scoring 34 points in the first half alone. Not a single unit of the Bears is functioning. The defense ranks among the three worst in the league, and on offense, they are trying to make something out of quarterback Justin Fields that he is not. On top of that, defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned under undisclosed circumstances two weeks ago. The Bears are currently a dysfunctional group, and it's almost impossible to imagine that head coach Matt Eberflus will see a third year of his contract. The question is only whether general manager Ryan Poles will clean house during the season or wait until January.
The Denver Broncos experienced their biggest humiliation and shame in the franchise's history last week. They lost by 70:20 to the Miami Dolphins, and if Mike McDaniel (Dolphins head coach) had decided to go for a field goal, his team might have scored 73 points, which would have been the most by any team in NFL history. The current record is 72. Everything that could go wrong for the Broncos did, and once the wheels started turning downhill, there was no turning back.
The defense stopped playing, and the Dolphins kept scoring touchdowns. Now, the Broncos are up against the wall, and this will be a huge test. If they had a bit more luck, they could be at 2-1. They lost by one point to the Las Vegas Raiders (16:17) and squandered a 21-3 lead in Week 2 against the Washington Commanders. However, when you see 0-3 on the scoreboard and a 50-point loss last week, it's hard to speak positively about them.
The Bears and Broncos are currently the two most struggling teams in the NFL. However, there is a significant difference. While everyone knows that changes are coming to Chicago, in Denver, they have to fight to turn things around. Sean Payton arrived as a Super Bowl-winning head coach to make changes and improve quarterback Russell Wilson. While there does seem to be progress in the offense, the defense has stagnated quite a bit. There is no doubt that Payton invested all his knowledge during the week to awaken the team and prepare them for the trip to the "Windy City." And knowing the authority he holds and how embarrassed his team felt, there's no doubt they will come out fully fired up at Soldier Field. Because after all the investments, being 0-4 after Week 4 with the franchise's toughest loss in history is unthinkable. And there is no better opponent than the Bears at this moment to lift their spirits and change course.
