Italy SuperLega – Round 22
03 March 2024
MONZA-CISTERNA
We have now reached the final day of the Superlega, and the outcomes are almost decided for most teams. After analyzing 21 matches together, we don't want to waste any more words. Monza is our favorite for victory, and we predict a 3-0/3-1 win, which would secure three crucial points for the Lombard team's position in the standings. Although Monza is already mathematically in the playoffs, they could still distance themselves from Milan and Verona, even surpassing Lube. On the contrary, Cisterna is doomed to compete in the playoffs, and three additional points wouldn't make any difference.
MILAN-PERUGIA
Milan-Perugia represents another peculiar match for us, which, if played at a more critical moment, could have different implications, and we'll explain why: Perugia is already mathematically second, with a ten-point lead over the third-place Piacenza and trailing Trento by five points. This match wouldn't change Perugia's fate but could be an opportunity for them to rotate players ahead of the championship phase. On the other hand, Milan could climb from seventh to fourth place with three points. Nonetheless, we expect a hard-fought match where both teams could win at least one set, with Milan slightly favored.
PIACENZA-MODENA
Piacenza is favored against Modena. Modena has already secured a place in the winning phase by clinching the last available position (eighth place). Piacenza, currently third, cannot reach second place but risks dropping to fourth. Additionally, Piacenza lost Wednesday's Champions League match, which would have granted them access to the semifinals. The home team will surely aim to end the season with a home victory against a team that hasn't shined this season.
TRENTO-PADOVA
Trento-Padova is a match with absolutely nothing on the line. Trento, already mathematically first, faces Padova, mathematically tenth and a candidate for relegation. In a game with nothing at stake, we predict possible squad rotations by Lorenzetti, also considering Thursday's cup commitment. It's a peculiar match, but we can't help but recommend Trento as the winner, driven by their clear superiority and desire to conclude the regular season on a high note in front of their fans.
VERONA-LUBE
Verona-Lube is an exciting match where both teams vie for three points, significantly impacting the playoff outlook. Verona trails Lube by only one point and has the opportunity to play such an important match at home, especially considering it's the last match before the playoffs. On the other side, Lube, fresh from a Champions League semifinal win (3-1), might be tired but also enthusiastic to win this match. We predict an entertaining match where both teams could win at least one set. OVER for us.
