Lamia – Panaitolikos
Greece - Stoiximan Super League, Round 7
Panaitolikos is still searching for its first win in the Super League (0-3-2), but in the recent 1-1 draw against OFI in Agrinio (27/9), the team showed significant improvement. In a match filled with numerous missed opportunities on both sides, the team finally found some positive aspects to take away. They took the lead with a goal from Mali (11', assisted by Pedro), but OFI equalized in the 20th minute (courtesy of Felipe).
Pedro, who not only provided an assist but was also actively involved in Panaitolikos' offensive efforts, had five missed goal-scoring opportunities (33', 64', 68', 71', 81'). Goalkeeper Kapino delivered an excellent performance, making crucial saves during key moments, including stops against Glazer (45'+1', a one-on-one chance), Felipe (50'), and Lambropoulou (87'). Panaitolikos had some luck when Bakits hit the crossbar (48'). The team also responded with chances from F. Duarte (79') and Sengelia (81'), both of which were thwarted by the opposing goalkeeper Bauman.
Coach Schurer, who received a contract extension after the team's impressive performance, attributed the draw to the stress experienced by his players. Panaitolikos will face AEK in an away match on 8/10.
In terms of team news, there are no new issues for Schurer. Bakakis (A) and Tsingaras (M) are currently sidelined due to injuries. Hatzitheodoridis (MA), Bouzoukis (ME), Stergiakis (T), Stagits (A), and Anastasopoulos (A) were left out for tactical reasons. Pedro (E) is expected to retain his starting position after his outstanding performance, with Sengelia (ME) as a logical replacement. F. Duarte (ME) is also eager to be in the starting lineup.
Lamia, on the other hand, has added players with relatively high quality compared to their previous standards. However, they are beginning to lose their initial momentum. Panaitolikos improved in their last match against OFI, and consistency will be key for them. While they are creative in midfield and generate scoring opportunities, they tend to be inconsistent. The difference in returns between the two teams is significant, making an upset a possibility.
