Lyngby – Nordsjaelland
Danish Superliga Round 7
Lyngby, September 3, 14:00 CET
The leader in the table of the Danish Superliga Nordsjaelland will not have an easy task on the road to Lyngby.
A big problem for the team that has shone so far in the domestic league (five wins in six matches, as many as 18 goals scored) is accumulated fatigue. Behind Nordsjaelland is the match in Belgrade on Thursday night, a 1:0 victory against Partizan in the final qualification round of the UEFA Conference League. The vice-champion of Denmark deservedly won a place in the European competition group stage. Now the focus is completely on the domestic league, but Lyngby is an extremely difficult opponent.
Lyngby is in ninth place in the table with seven points, but has two triumphs in a row at home. Especially against favorites Midtjylland, this team was effective in winning 4:1, in the match played on August 6. Then the role of the favorite in the victory over Randers 1:0 was justified. So far, 17 goals have been scored in this team's matches, barely less than three on average.
What is important to point out is that Lyngby plays offensively on its home field against the favorites, looking for more chances, so these are always attractive duels. So it is more likely that we will see at least three goals in this game - than we can claim that Nordsjaelland has a sure path to victory.
Nordsjaelland won 3:0 against Midjylland in the previous round of Danish Superliga. The only setback was the defeat against Silkeborg away from home, 2:0 in the game played on August 20... In that game, Nordsjaelland was completely disappointing, but the core players were obviously thinking more about European games in that period. That is not the case now.
In the middle of February of this year, Lyngby managed to get a 1:1 draw against Nordsjaelland, which was then the leader in the table - but also a less powerful attacking team than now. In August last year, Lyngby lost 2:1 away from home. In March 2021, Nordsjaelland won this away game 3:0.
Nicas Kjeldsen, the Lyngby coach, is extremely pleased that the club managed to keep hold of midfielder Tochi Chukwuani this summer. The club proves that it is a stable first division member in an increasingly better league, which plays to win against everyone on their home field. Experienced Icelandic midfielder Gylfy Sigurdsson, a star with extensive experience playing in strong Premier League clubs, is a trump card especially for matches like this against Nordsjaelland.
Teams enter the game counting on ready main options. It is difficult to predict the outcome, but considering that the host will not focus on defense, we should expect goals already in the first half.
