Niedercorn – Midtjylland
Europe - UEFA Europa Conference League, Qualification round 2
Midtjylland is slowly improving the form - with a 2:0 victory over Niedercorn last week in the Europa Conference League Qualifying Third Round first leg, the Danish team deserved the chance to perform with less pressure on the road in Luxembourg this Thursday.
The Wolves are strong favorites in the second leg as well, but Niedercorn has quality and will at least try to avoid defeat against the favorites – and thus proudly say goodbye to European competitions this season.
The Danes, of course, have much more potential in their attacking play. The good form of South Korean forward Gue-Sung Cho (scoring in their first match) is an encouragement for Midtylland, a team with high ambitions in the domestic championship.
Progres Niedercorn is recognized as a good and dominant team in matches at home. The team in Luxemburg's National Division as hosts achieved 35 points in 15 matches and scored an excellent 37 goals. There is a good chance that the home team will manage to score this time. In the previous game played as home team, Niedercorn drew 2:2 against Kosovo team Gjilani. The team has only two triumphs in the last five official matches - and in front of their fans they will certainly be motivated to avoid defeat.
Midtjylland, on the other hand, can now focus on the next match in the domestic championship. The team is in a series of four triumphs, and last weekend they routinely defeated Silkeborg in the Danish championship 2:0. In the last away game, a 3:2 victory over AGF (friendly game in July), it was seen that Midtjylland doesn't play defense as well as they do on their home field.
These teams have never played before this summer. Brazilian defender Juninho, as well as Swedish midfielder Kristoffer Olson, are currently irreplaceable in the Danish team. However, coach Thomas Thomasberg is expected to make a little calculation with the squad for the game in Luxemburg - since they have an excellent score 2:0 from the previous leg.
The home team will surely look for a goal from the start and perform aggressively, which is a chance for a more open game of both teams. There is a good chance that both teams will score, much more likely than simply expecting an easy away triumph for Midtjylland in European competition.
Just three days after this match, Niedercorn will play away to Jeunesse d'Esch in the domestic championship. A good performance against Midtjylland is absolutely necessary for the home team, which has the opportunity to prove that they play effective attacking football, even against a realistically significantly better opponent.
Progres Niedercorn is a three-time champion of Luxembourg, the last title was won in 1981. However, the second place achieved in the previous season is proof of the evident progress of the team, which has players from as many as nine countries. It is evidently a serious project of a club that wants long-term results. A good performance against Midtjylland, on the farewell from the continental competition, would be the proof of that.
