Reds – Blue Jays

Elly De La Cruz did it again.
He's currently one of the most dynamic players in baseball, and he delivered another remarkable play last night that served as a reminder of his prowess. De La Cruz electrified the crowd at the Great American Ball Park with an astonishing display of speed during the Reds' 4-3 loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday evening.
Facing Blue Jays starter Bassitt, who had pitched perfectly for the first three innings until Tj Friedl hit a leadoff homer in the fourth, De La Cruz, a switch-hitter, launched a 1-2 changeup to right field from the left side of the plate. Although narrowly missing a home run, the ball took an unexpected bounce off the wall as right fielder Cavan Biggio chased it down.
As McLain, who had reached first base after a walk, dashed home, Biggio's throw sailed past both the cutoff man and the backup. Recognizing the error, De La Cruz seized the opportunity to sprint home, beating out a throw to catcher Alejandro Kirk. The play was recorded as a triple, and a run was scored due to Biggio's error. De La Cruz completed the run from home to home in an impressive 15.30 seconds, marking the fastest home-to-home time by a Red in the Statcast era (since 2015) and the third fastest home-to-home time of the current season.
De La Cruz seems to inject an exciting element into the game every day, making each match intriguing. The 21-year-old De La Cruz has earned the title of the "fastest man in baseball" for this season, and it's well-deserved as he currently boasts the highest sprint speed of the year, reaching up to 30.5 ft/s.
In his subsequent at-bat, De La Cruz again came tantalizingly close to hitting a home run, settling for a two-out double off the left field wall. Even in defeat, the Reds, especially the young star De La Cruz, provided a thrilling performance. Let's see if the Reds can steal a victory in the final game of the series against the Canadian team tonight at the Great American Ball Park.
