Stuttgart – Wolfsburg
Bundesliga Round 7
Stuttgart, October 7, 15:30 CET
Stuttgart is in a great position to claim their fifth win in a row in all competitions, at home to Wolfsburg in Bundesliga Round 7 on Saturday.
Unexpectedly, but fully deserved, the Stuttgart team is in second place in the German championship at the beginning of October. At home, this team was very convincing, but also especially impressive in the last away games – in the previous round against Koln (2:0 win) and in mid-September in Mainz (3:1 win).
Since the end of July, Stuttgart has 10 wins in 11 games – and the only defeat was away to RB Leipzig at the end of August, against a team that plays in the Champions League. At home, this squad has won six in a row, and scored at least two goals in each one (and at least three goals in five!). It is important to note that the excellent form is not a coincidence - at the beginning of May, at the end of the previous season, the team achieved a series of top results and entered the new season with well-deserved confidence.
On the other hand, Wolfsburg spoiled the impression a little during September, and it is clear that this team still does not have the quality to fight for a place that leads to the Champions League next season. In the last two away games, Wolfsburg lost and deservedly so - against Borussia Dortmund at the end of September (1:0), and before that against Hoffenheim (3:1).
It is certain that the teams will not defend in the match in Stuttgart, and at the moment it seems that the players of the home team are in much better shape, that they can convert the chances that they will certainly get in this match. The absolute leader and star of the team is striker Serhou Guirassy from Guinea, the scorer of ten of Stuttgart's 19 goals since the beginning of Bundesliga season. He scored five goals in the last three Bundesliga matches and is currently in the best form of his career.
And Wolfsburg has an extremely effective striker, the Dane Jonas Wind (seven goals since the beginning of the season in the Bundesliga). However, it is important to point out that the attack of the Wolfsburg team is nowhere near as potent as it is in the case of the rivals on Saturday. Thus, the remaining players of away team managed to score only two goals in six rounds of the Bundesliga.
Kastanaras, Nartey, Silas and Zagadou will not play for Stuttgart. However, Wolfsburg is in much more serious trouble – in addition to Fischer, Jenz, Lange and Nmecha, for the second match in a row, the important first team player, Brazilian defender Rogerio, will not play due to an injury.
Stuttgart has a great opportunity to end the series of bad results against Wolfsburg at home – in March the guests won 1:0, and in April 2022 it was 1:1. Now the team of coach Sebastian Hoenes is in significantly better shape, with more options in the rotation and deservedly in the role of favorites. Over 60,000 fans will be hoping for a triumph, which would leave the team in the fight even for the very top of the Bundesliga table this fall.
