Trentino - Piacenza
Italy - Coppa Italia Superlega, Final
Unpredictable semifinals at the Rome sports arena, which saw Trento as the winners after a hard-fought battle against a determined Milano, who were leading by 2 sets. On the other side, an unrecognizable Perugia suffered a defeat as Piacenza stopped the Sir Safety's 34-match winning streak.
The match between Trento and Milano was of a very high level, with remarkable attack percentages, especially from Kazyski, Micheletto, and Ishikawa. What really made the difference was the reception, where the Lorenzetti team did very well. In the other fundamentals, the difference was minimal, slightly favoring Trento, who closed the match with a sumptuous 51% attack.
On the other side, the match was, in my opinion, more of a demerit of Perugia than a merit of Piacenza. The two teams ended the game with the same attack percentage of 41%, not particularly brilliant, neither the Perugians with a Leon who was definitely having a bad day (23% attack), nor the Piacentini with a Lucarelli who was well below his capacities. What determined the match was Piacenza's service and reception, which were far superior to Anastasi's team, who wasted a great opportunity to win this trophy.
The final will be a highly contested match, and I don't think we'll see less than four sets. However, I slightly favor Trento for the following reasons:
- They certainly played better in the semifinal against Milan, demonstrating superior attack and reception capabilities compared to Piacenza.
- In the championship, Trento is doing better than Piacenza, who are at 31 points, while Coach Lorenzetti's team has 38 points.
- Piacenza's serves will not have the same effectiveness against Trento because, despite being the strongest team at the moment, Perugia sees reception as its weakest point. Therefore, I don't think they will have the same effectiveness in this final.
