Volos - PAOK
Greece - Super League, Championship round, Round 9
PAOK managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Panathinaikos in their recent match at Leoforo. This was a great result for the team, especially considering the absences they had to deal with before and during the match. Despite falling behind in the 9th minute, goalkeeper Kotarski made two super interventions in the 45th and 53rd minutes to keep the team in the game. Thomas, who came on in the 28th minute, missed a great chance in the 39th minute but later equalized with a fine individual effort at the 60th minute. The team also relied on two terrible saves by the Croatian goalkeeper in the 62nd and 63rd minutes and a shot that hit the crossbar in the 80th minute to leave Panathinaikos unbeaten at home for the third time this year (twice in the SL and once in the Cup).
PAOK now has two paths to securing a ticket to the Europa League. The first is through the conquest of the Cup (against AEK in the final), and the second is through securing third place in the league, which they can claim in their upcoming match against Olympiakos at Toumba. A win will be enough for them to secure third place, provided they also win against Volos.
However, the team is currently facing several problems due to injuries. In addition to Ingason (stopper), Sastre (back), Augusto (midfielder), and Tyson (midfielder), who were already sidelined, Oliveira (forward) has now also joined the list of injured players. Kargas (stopper) is still out, and Narey (winger), Murg (winger), and Kurtic (midfielder) are also unavailable. Despite these challenges, PAOK will be hoping for an easy victory in their next match.
