Wehen – HSV

Wehen – HSV

2. Bundesliga Round 9

Wiesbaden, October 7, 13:00 CET

Former European champions HSV are in an ideal opportunity to record their first away win since the end of August, in Wiesbaden on Saturday.

The match against Wehen in the 2. Bundesliga puts the Hamburg team in the role of absolute favorites. The HSV team lost their last two away matches – to Osnabruck 2:1 on September 22 and to Elversberg, also 2:1, a week earlier.

In reality, Wehen is a team with fewer quality individuals and in a realistically worse shape than the previous opponents HSV played with. Wehen lost all of their previous five games, including three in the 2. Bundesliga. In the previous round away to Hannover, the 2:0 defeat could have been drastically more convincing. The same is the case with the defeat at home against Elversberg is 2:0 (match played on September 23). The last time Wehen managed to win was on August 18, 1:0 and with a lot of luck against Karlsruher.

It is absolutely clear why HSV are the favorites. After eight rounds, the Hamburg team fully deserve to share of first place, with the opportunity to strengthen their position at the top of the 2. Bundesliga on this visit. The team scores two goals per match.

On the other hand, Wehen is the only team in the 2. Bundesliga without a win in the last five rounds. After a solid start in July, this club has fallen to 15th place in the table, and it is certain that they will slip into the relegation zone after this weekend.

Slovakian midfielder Laszlo Benes is in fantastic form for HSV, in addition to six goals, he also has three assists in the 2. Bundesliga and is currently an unsolvable enigma for opposing defenses in the league. Also, the German striker Glatzel plays at high level, in addition to five goals, he has two assists.

The complete Wehen team scored only three goals in the last five rounds in the 2. Bundesliga, and now they are facing a better opponent than those they played against in the previous two months.

The teams did not play H2H games in more then three years, and HSV won 3:2 in the last one in 2020. Previously, in November 2019, it was 1:1 in Wiesbaden. In October 2018, the Hamburg team won 3:0 away to Wehen, and now a match of a similar character could be expected.

All the bookies expect a large number, at least four goals in the match - but still the home team is expected to be extremely careful and oriented strictly on defense, at least in the opening part of the duel. Nevertheless, the triumph of the guests is a certain outcome, counting on HSV's big ambitions this season - to win a return to the Bundesliga elite in the spring, where they deserve to be.
